Miniaturised Cavity Pressure Sensors – For the Smalest Spaces in Plastics Injection Moulding

Even smaller injection molding sensors with 1.8mm and 2.5mm diameters have been added to our well proven sensor family with front diameters of 2.5 and 4 mm. These sensors allow for positioning in places that so far have been inaccessible. For the first time sensors of these dimensions provide an automated sensitivity detection and a mechanical decoupling from the respective mounting bore.

Within the last decade, cavitiy pressure sensors have become an essential tool in the production of demanding injection molding parts. The pressure development in the cavity of the injection mold is used to avoid insufficient filling or overfilling with the melted mass. Furthermore, these sensors are used for quality assurance in safety critical components eg in automotive or medical industry, finally enabling documentation and complete traceability of the production process, down to a single part.

The significance of measured values strongly depends on the placement of the sensors. Due to the outer shape of a injection mold, unfortunately, the ideal positions for sensor placements are quite often located in nearly inaccessible areas. The body of the new sensors have been scaled down to 5mm and shortened to 14.5mm in length. By this, they enable an assembly in areas that have been unaccessible previously,, without compromising the mesurement results.

The incorporation of the two features "Priased" and "Priasafe"has not been feasable before in sensors of this size. For the user, this facilitates the handling of the sensors significantly. The automated sensitivity detection "Priased", enables automatic entering of the calibration data in the data acquisition system - without loss of accuracy. Priasafe, the mechanic compensation appliance which enables the mechanic decoupled sensor mounting in the assembly bore, balances possible impreciseness and entails a significat amelioration of the process reliability.
